ActivePerl Problems Solved

A few days ago I downloaded ActivePerl from here. After installing it I thought I would try running some simple programs but I kept getting an access denied error. After rebooting my system & viewing the Proactive Defense Summary in my Comodo Firewall, I discovered that Perl was now working fine.

Side-by-Side Configuration

Recently I installed AVG in Vista, I noticed after restarting my computer that the AVG tray icon wasn't showing, so I tried starting the program manually & received a message regarding side-by-side configuration is incorrect. I'd also noticed that I could no-longer download files in my various web browsers.

I uninstalled AVG & decided to download Avira AntiVir, Comodo Firewall & Spybot, I've had no problem with them so far & I'm able to download files in Firefox again.

MyPasswordSafe: Ubuntu

There is a version of Password Safe for Ubuntu, you can install it be typing into a terminal...

sudo apt-get install mypasswordsafe

After installation you'll need to create your own menu launcher for it, the image below shows you how my launcher looks.

New Stat Counter

I used to use a hit counter provided by Easy Hit Counters to count the number of hits that my blog received. A few days ago I started having problems with the stat counter & I wasn't the only one, as you can see here.

So I've got a new stat counter courtesy of StatCounter.

Jabaco: New Language

I was reading this post over on the Coding Monkeys forum about a new language called Jabaco.

The language lets you write code similar in style to VB6 but it compiles to bytecode similar to the output of Java. It also has a GUI Editor built-in & lots of other features plus it's free.

FireGPG Add-on for Firefox

FireGPG is an add-on for Firefox which lets you view, decrypt & encrypt emails in webmail programs such as Yahoo & Gmail. You'll need to instal GnuPG first & currently the FireFTP add-on isn't compatible with FireGPG, so you can't have them both installed at the sametime.

Zamzar: Free Online File Conversion

Recently I downloaded a text document which had been saved in the .docx format. In order to open the document I had to download & install OpenOffice, which is a pretty large download @ over 100MB.

I did some searching & found a free online conversion site called Zamzar, I just uploaded the file & selected the PDF conversion option. A few hours later I was sent an email containing a download link for the PDF file.
